Nurturing Innovation

Scroll Down for a Preview of this Program

Judy Estrin
Founder and CEO
Packet Design; Former CTO

Program Highlights:

  • New breakthroughs are often blocked by business today.
  • There is nothing wrong with failure.
  • Your customers can prompt innovation.

Innovation drives business and the economy. But in recent times the urge to innovate has been trumped by a rush to market. Judy Estrin points out that if your focus is in the short-term your long-term future has to suffer.

Estrin has been part of a number of start-ups that have been both innovative and successful. Based on the lessons learned from the experience of these companies she describes how companies of any size can set the stage for innovation. And she goes on to suggest that failure is an option and that it is often a mistake to take a new product to market too soon. Once an innovation reaches maturity it is a good idea for a company to plan a change in leadership.

Judy Estrin, seasoned entrepreneur and engineer, has been named three times to Fortune magazine's list of the 50 most powerful women in American business. She sits on the boards of directors of the Walt Disney Company and the Federal Express Corporation. She holds a BS in math and computer science from UCLA, and an MS in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
