Quite often managers, who want to do the
right thing, do the wrong thing when it comes to dealing with their
people. Not wishing to be offensive they
often choose not to provide real feedback for fear of offending and
causing a disruption. Because they may not understand what motivates
people they often provide meaningless incentives which employees
find offensive.
Doug Harris believes that encouraging healthy
debate within an organization is very important as it often results
in new ideas, innovative solutions, and a workforce that feels
better and works better. He explains his rationale for this view and
the ways in which an organization can take a number of steps with
the objective of getting the best out of their people - and the
numerous benefits that result.
Doug Harris began his career with Procter & Gamble and Scott Paper
where he served as an employee relations specialist, sales trainer
and sales professional. He also served as Founder and President of
Samuel Roberts & Associates, an executive search firm specializing
in minority recruitment. Mr. Harris is the Advisor for the Diversity
Committee for Chicago SHRP.
